Sabbāneva panetāni tena tena samādānena dhutakilesattā dhutassa bhikkhuno aṅgāni,

其次一切头陀支,因彼等的受持而除去(头陀)烦恼,故除去(烦恼)的比丘的支分(为头陀支),

Ñ(II,11): All these, however, are the practices (aṅga) of a bhikkhu who is ascetic (dhuta) because he has shaken off (dhuta) defilement by undertaking one or other of them.

kilesadhunanato vā dhutanti laddhavohāraṃ ñāṇaṃ aṅgaṃ etesanti dhutaṅgāni.

或因除去烦恼故头陀得名为智,此等的支分而称「头陀支」。

Ñ: Or the knowledge that has got the name 'ascetic' (dhuta) because it shakes off (dhunana) defilement is a practice (aṅga) belonging to these, thus they are 'ascetic practices' (dhutaṅga).

Atha vā dhutāni ca tāni paṭipakkhaniddhunanato aṅgāni ca paṭipattiyātipi dhutaṅgāni.

他们是除遣[qiǎn]其敌对者(烦恼)的头陀及行道的支分,故称「头陀支」。

Ñ: Or alternatively, they are ascetic (dhuta) because they shake off (niddhunana) opposition, and they are practices (aṅga) because they are a way (paṭipatti).

Evaṃ tāvettha atthato viññātabbo vinicchayo.

如是当先抉择此等头陀支的意义。

Ñ: This, firstly, is how the exposition should be known here as to meaning.
