Visuddhimagga IV-102

Paṭhamaṃ jhānanti idaṃ parato āvibhavissati.

「初禅」将在以后解说。

Ñ(IV,102): First jhāna: this will be explained below (§119).



Upasampajjāti upagantvā, pāpuṇitvāti vuttaṃ hoti.

「具足」是说行近与证得之义;

Ñ: Enters upon (upasampajja): arrives at; reaches, is what is meant;



Upasampādayitvā vā, nipphādetvāti vuttaṃ hoti.

或者具足是成就之义。

Ñ: or else, taking it as 'makes enter' (upasampādayitvā), then producing, is what is meant.

Sayādaw U Sīlānanda: The word 'upasampādayitvā' means having accomplishes; literally means having approached.



Vibhaṅge pana ‘‘upasampajjāti paṭhamassa jhānassa lābho paṭilābho patti sampatti phusanā sacchikiriyā upasampadā’’ti vuttaṃ.

在《分别论》中说:「具足……是初禅的得、获得、达、到达、触作证,具足」,

Ñ: In the Vibhaṅga this is said:' "Enters upon": the gaining, the regaining, the reaching, the arrival at, the touching, the realizing of, the entering upon (upasampadā), the first jhāna' (Vbh. 257),



Tassāpi evamevattho daṭṭhabbo.

当知即是此义。

Ñ: the meaning of which should be regarded in the same way.
