Kathaṃ paccekabuddhato?

（6）怎样以辟支佛比较呢？

Ñ(VIII,22): How by comparison with Paccekabuddhas?

Yepi te attano ñāṇavīriyabalena sabbakilesasattunimmathanaṃ katvā paccekabodhiṃ pattā khaggavisāṇakappā sayambhuno, tepi maraṇato na muttā, kuto panāhaṃ muccissāmīti.

他以自己的智与精进力，破了一切烦恼之贼，而得独觉──麟角喻独生者，亦不能脱离于死，我怎么能脱呢？

Ñ: Even those who by the strength of their own knowledge and energy crushed all the enemy defilements and reached enlightenment for themselves, who [stood alone] like the horn of the rhinoceros (see Sn. 35f.), who were self-perfected, were still not free from death. So how should I be free from it?

Taṃ taṃ nimittamāgamma, vīmaṃsantā mahesayo;

Sayambhuññāṇatejena, ye pattā āsavakkhayaṃ.

Ekacariyanivāsena, khaggasiṅgasamūpamā;

Tepi nātigatā maccuṃ, mādisesu kathāva kāti.

观察各种原因的大仙，

以智力而得漏尽的独生者，

以独行独住的麟角喻者，

他们也不得超越于死，

如我这等人，

更有何言说。

Ñ: To help them in their search for truth

The Sages various signs employed,

Their knowledge brought them self-perfection,

Their cankers were at length destroyed.

Like the rhinoceros's horn

They lived alone in constancy,

But death they could no way evade;

What can be said of those like me?

Evaṃ paccekabuddhato anussaritabbaṃ.

如是以辟支佛比较而念死。

Ñ: It should be recollected in this way by comparison with Paccekabuddhas.
