Visuddhimagga XVI-49

 Paridevo

[(v) LAMENTATION]

545. Paridevo nāma ñātibyasanādīhi phuṭṭhassa vacīpalāpo. So lālappanalakkhaṇo, guṇadosakittanaraso, sambhamapaccupaṭṭhāno. Dukkho pana saṅkhāradukkhabhāvato dukkhavatthuto ca.

(5)「悲」──是丧失亲戚等事的人的心的号泣。它有哀哭的特相,有叙述功德和过失的作用,以烦乱为现状。因为悲是行苦的状态及苦的所依故是苦。

Ñ(XVI,49): Lamentation is verbal clamour on the part of one affected by loss of relatives and so on. It has crying out as its characteristic. Its function is proclaiming virtues and vices. It is manifested as tumult. It is suffering because it is a state of suffering due to formations and because it is a basis for suffering.

Tenetaṃ vuccati –

所以说:

Hence this is said:

‘‘Yaṃ sokasallavihato paridevamāno,

Kaṇṭhoṭṭhatālutalasosajamappasayhaṃ;

Bhiyyodhimattamadhigacchatiyeva dukkhaṃ,

Dukkhoti tena bhagavā paridevamāhā’’ti.

为愁箭所伤的人的悲哭,

干了喉唇口盖实难受,

比起愁来苦更甚,

所以世尊说是苦。

Ñ: Now when a man is struck by sorrow's dart and he laments

The pain he is already undergoing he augments

With pain born of dry throat and lips and palate, hard to bear.

And so lamenting too is pain, the Buddha did declare.

Ayaṃ parideve vinicchayo.

──这是依悲的决定说──

Ñ: This is the exposition of lamentation.
