Visuddhimagga XXII-21

Yathā ca sotāpannassa, evaṃ sakadāgāmianāgāmīnampi. Arahato pana avasiṭṭhakilesapaccavekkhaṇaṃ nāma natthīti. Evaṃ sabbānipi ekūnavīsati paccavekkhaṇāni nāma.

这样斯陀含、阿那含亦如须陀洹(各有五种观察)。其次在阿罗汉则无观察残余的烦恼(故只有四观察)。如是一切名为十九种观察;

Ñ(XXII,21): And as in the case of the stream-enterer, so also in the cases of the once-retumer and non-returner. But the Arahant has no reviewing of remaining defilements. So all the kinds of reviewing total nineteen.



Ukkaṭṭhaparicchedoyeva ceso.

此(数)是最大的限度。

Ñ: This is the maximum number.



Pahīnāvasiṭṭhakilesapaccavekkhaṇañhi sekkhānampi hoti vā na vā. Tassa hi paccavekkhaṇassa abhāveneva mahānāmo bhagavantaṃ pucchi ‘‘kosu nāma me dhammo ajjhattaṃ appahīno, yena me ekadā lobhadhammāpi cittaṃ pariyādāya tiṭṭhantī’’ti (ma. ni. 1.175) sabbaṃ vitthārato veditabbaṃ.

因为观察已断(的烦恼)及残余的烦恼,在诸有学是或有或无的。正如无此观察的摩诃男(大名)问世尊道:[《中部》M.14./I,p.9l.]「于我之内尚有何法未曾舍离,使我时为贪法而占据我心呢」?应知一切的详细说法。

Ñ: Trainers may or may not have the reviewing of the defilements abandoned and those still remaining. In fact it was owing to the absence of such reviewing that Mahānāma asked the Blessed One, 'What state is there still unabandoned by me internally owing to which at times states of greed invade my mind and remain?' (M.i,91), all of which should be quoted.
