Anuppādo khemanti santipade ñāṇantiādi pana ādīnavañāṇassa paṭipakkhañāṇadassanatthaṃ vuttaṃ. Bhayatupaṭṭhānena vā ādīnavaṃ disvā ubbiggahadayānaṃ abhayampi atthi khemaṃ nirādīnavanti assāsajananatthampi etaṃ vuttaṃ. Yasmā vā panassa uppādādayo bhayato sūpaṭṭhitā honti, tassa tappaṭipakkhaninnaṃ cittaṃ hoti, tasmā bhayatupaṭṭhānavasena siddhassa ādīnavañāṇassa ānisaṃsadassanatthampetaṃ vuttanti veditabbaṃ.
「不生起是安稳,为寂静之道智」等,是为示与过患智所相反的智而说。或者是为由怖畏现起智曾见过患而心有恐怖的人生起这样的安心:「亦有无怖畏,安稳,无过患的」。或者因为已善确立生起等的怖畏者的心倾向于那相反的(不生起等)。[PTS 650]所以为示由怖畏现起智而成就过患智者的功德,作如是说。
Ñ(XXI,40): Knowledge of the state of peace is this: 'Non-arising is safety', etc.: this, however, should be understood as said for the purpose of showing the opposite kind of knowledge to knowledge of danger. Or when it is stated in this way, that there is safety without terror and free from danger, it is for the purpose of comforting those who are upset in their hearts by seeing danger through appearance as terror. Or else, when arising, etc., have clearly appeared to a man as terror, his mind inclines towards their opposites, and so this is said [650] for the purpose of showing the advantages in the knowledge of danger established by the appearance as terror.
