Ñ(VIII,57): 2. The mental recitation should be done just as it is done verbally.
Vacasā sajjhāyo hi manasā sajjhāyassa paccayo hoti.
以语读诵是为以意读诵之缘；
Ñ: For the verbal recitation is a condition for the mental recitation,
Manasā sajjhāyo lakkhaṇapaṭivedhassa paccayo hoti.
以意读诵是为通达（特）相之缘。
Ñ: and the mental recitation is a condition for the penetration of the characteristic [of foulness].
