Visuddhimagga XXII-24

Ñ: [THE SECOND FRUITION — FOURTH NOBLE PERSON]

Tatiyamaggañāṇakathā

814. Imassāpi ñāṇassa anantaraṃ vuttanayeneva phalacittāni veditabbāni. Ettāvatā cesa sakadāgāmī nāma catuttho ariyapuggalo hoti sakiṃdeva imaṃ lokaṃ āgantvā dukkhassantakaraṇasamattho. Tato paraṃ paccavekkhaṇaṃ vuttanayameva.

(斯陀含果)在此智之后,当知如前所说(有二或三剎那)的果心。至此名为斯陀含(一来)的第四圣者,他只一次来此世间便得灭尽于苦。此后的观察,亦如前述。

Ñ(XXII,24): The fruition consciousness should be understood to follow immediately upon this knowledge in the same way as before. And at this point this once-returner is called the fourth noble person. He is bound to make an end of suffering after returning once to this world. Next there comes reviewing in the way already described.
