Visuddhimagga III-105

Tattha pathavīkasiṇaṃ, āpokasiṇaṃ, tejokasiṇaṃ, vāyokasiṇaṃ, nīlakasiṇaṃ, pītakasiṇaṃ, lohitakasiṇaṃ, odātakasiṇaṃ, ālokakasiṇaṃ, paricchinnākāsakasiṇanti ime dasa kasiṇā.

此中的地遍、水遍、火遍、风遍、青遍、黄遍、赤遍、白遍、光明遍、限定虚空遍为十遍。

Ñ(III,105): Herein, the ten kasiṇas are these: earth kasiṇa, water kasiṇa, fire kasiṇa, air kasiṇa, blue kasiṇa, yellow kasiṇa, red kasiṇa, white kasiṇa, light kasiṇa, and limited-space kasiṇa.



Uddhumātakaṃ, vinīlakaṃ, vipubbakaṃ, vicchiddakaṃ, vikkhāyitakaṃ, vikkhittakaṃ, hatavikkhittakaṃ, lohitakaṃ, puḷuvakaṃ, aṭṭhikanti ime dasa asubhā.

膨胀相、青瘀相、脓烂相、断坏相、食残相、散乱相、斩斫[zhǎn zhuó]离散相、血涂相、虫聚相、骸[hái]骨相为十不净。

Ñ: The ten kinds of foulness are these: the bloated, the livid, the festering, the cut-up, the gnawed, the scattered, the hacked and scattered, the bleeding, the worm-infested, and a skeleton.



Buddhānussati, dhammānussati, saṅghānussati, sīlānussati, cāgānussati, devatānussati, maraṇānussati, kāyagatāsati, ānāpānassati, upasamānussatīti imā dasa anussatiyo.

佛随念、法随念、僧随念、戒随念、舍随念、天随念、死随念、身随念、入出息随念、寂静随念为十随念。

Ñ: The ten kinds of recollection are these: recollection of the Buddha (the Enlightened One), recollection of the Dhamma (the Law), recollection of the Saṅgha (the Community), recollection of virtue, recollection of generosity, recollection of deities, recollection (or mindfulness) of death, mindfulness occupied with the body, mindfulness of breathing, and recollection of peace. [111]

Sayādaw U Sīlānanda: 'recollection of the Buddha' means recollection of the qualities of the Buddha.


The word 'peace' here means Nibbāna.

Han: Mahāsī Sayādaw used the Pāḷi words without translating into Burmese.


But the comments by Sayādaw U Sīlānanda are well taken.



Mettā, karuṇā, muditā, upekkhāti ime cattāro brahmavihārā.

[PTS 111] 慈、悲、喜、舍为四梵住。

Ñ: The four divine abidings are these: lovingkindness, compassion, gladness, and equanimity.



Ākāsānañcāyatanaṃ, viññāṇañcāyatanaṃ, ākiñcaññāyatanaṃ, nevasaññānāsaññāyatananti ime cattāro āruppā.

空无边处、识无边处、无所有处、非想非非想处为四无色。

Ñ: The four immaterial states are these: the base consisting of boundless space, the base consisting of boundless consciousness, the base consisting of nothingness, and the base consisting of neither perception nor non-perception.



Āhāre paṭikūlasaññā ekā saññā.

食厌想为一想。

Ñ: The one perception is the perception of repulsiveness in nutriment.

Sayādaw U Sīlānanda: The word 'nutriment' also means food.


Han: Mahāsī Sayādaw is same as Sayādaw U Sīlānanda.



Catudhātuvavatthānaṃ ekaṃ vavatthānanti evaṃ saṅkhātaniddesato vinicchayo veditabbo.

四界差别为一差别。当知这是依名称的解释而决择业处。

Ñ: The one defining is the defining of the four elements. This is how the exposition should be understood 'as to enumeration'.
