Visuddhimagga VIII-182

‘‘Iti kira passambhayaṃ kāyasaṅkhāraṃ assasissāmīti sikkhati.
Ñ(VIII,182): '[Objection:] So then, he trains thus: "I shall breathe in tranquillizing the bodily formation";

Passambhayaṃ kāyasaṅkhāraṃ passasissāmīti sikkhati.
Ñ: he trains thus: "I shall breathe out tranquillizing the bodily formation":

Evaṃ sante vātūpaladdhiyā ca pabhāvanā na hoti.
Ñ: that being so, there is no production of awareness of wind,

Assāsapassāsānañca pabhāvanā na hoti.
Ñ: and there is no production of in-breaths and out-breaths,

Ānāpānassatiyā ca pabhāvanā na hoti,
Ñ: and there is no production of mindfulness of breathing,

ānāpānassatisamādhissa ca pabhāvanā na hoti,
Ñ: and there is no production of concentration through mindfulness of breathing,

na ca naṃ taṃ samāpattiṃ paṇḍitā samāpajjantipi vuṭṭhahantipi.
Ñ: and consequently the wise neither enter into nor emerge from that attainment.
