Tatrime pañca sandhayo uggaho, paripucchā, upaṭṭhānaṃ, appanā, lakkhaṇanti.
这便是五节:(1)受持,(2)遍问,(3)现起,(4)安止,(5)相。
Ñ(VIII,187): Here are the five stages: learning, questioning, establishing, absorption, characteristic.
Tattha uggaho nāma kammaṭṭhānassa uggaṇhanaṃ.
此中(1)受持──是学习业处。
Ñ: Herein, learning is learning the meditation subject.
Paripucchā nāma kammaṭṭhānassa paripucchanā.
(2)遍问──是遍问业处。
Ñ: Questioning is questioning about the meditation subject.
Upaṭṭhānaṃ nāma kammaṭṭhānassa upaṭṭhānaṃ.
(3)现起──现起业处(之相)。
Ñ: Establishing is establishing the meditation subject.
Appanā nāma kammaṭṭhānassa appanā.
(4)安止──业处的安止。[PTS 278]
Ñ: Absorption [278] is the absorption of the meditation subject.
Lakkhaṇaṃ nāma kammaṭṭhānassa lakkhaṇaṃ.
(5)相──业处的特相。
Ñ: Characteristic is the characteristic of the meditation subject;
‘‘Evaṃlakkhaṇamidaṃ kammaṭṭhāna’’nti kammaṭṭhānasabhāvūpadhāraṇanti vuttaṃ hoti.
如是当知是说应该省察业处的相及业处的自性。
Ñ: what is meant is that it is the ascertaining of the meditation subject's individual essence thus: 'This meditation subject has such a characteristic'.
