Visuddhimagga VIII-209

Tatrāyaṃ āharaṇūpāyo, tena hi bhikkhunā kammaṭṭhānassa anupaṭṭhānabhāvaṃ ñatvā iti paṭisañcikkhitabbaṃ,

取回(业处之相)的方法如下:即彼比丘既知业处不现,便应如是考察:

Ñ(VIII,209): These are the means for doing it. The bhikkhu should recognize the unmanifest state of the meditation subject and consider thus:



ime assāsapassāsā nāma kattha atthi, kattha natthi.

「这出息入息在何处有?在何处无?」

Ñ: 'Where do these in-breaths and out-breaths exist? Where do they not?



Kassa vā atthi, kassa vā natthīti.

或「谁有?谁无?」

Ñ: In whom do they exist? In whom not?'.



Athevaṃ paṭisañcikkhatā ime antomātukucchiyaṃ natthi,

即如是考察:「在母胎中的(胎儿)无(出入息),

Ñ: Then, as he considers thus, he finds that they do not exist in one inside the mother's womb,



udake nimuggānaṃ natthi,

潜入水中的人无,

Ñ: or in those drowned in water,



tathā asaññībhūtānaṃ,

如是无想天人,

Ñ: or likewise in unconscious beings,



matānaṃ,

死者,

Ñ: or in the dead,



catutthajjhānasamāpannānaṃ,

第四禅的入定者,

Ñ: or in those attained to the fourth jhāna,



rūpārūpabhavasamaṅgīnaṃ,

生居于色及无色界者,

Ñ: or in those born into a fine-material or immaterial existence,



nirodhasamāpannānanti ñatvā evaṃ attanāva attā paṭicodetabbo

入灭尽定者(无出入息)」,既知如此,他便责问他自己:

Ñ: or in those attained to cessation [of perception and feeling]. So he should apostrophize himself thus:



‘‘nanu tvaṃ, paṇḍita, neva mātukucchigato,

「智者,你不是在母胎之内,

Ñ: 'You with all your wisdom are certainly not inside a mother's womb



na udake nimuggo,

不是潜水者,

Ñ: or drowned in water



na asaññībhūto,

非无想者,

Ñ: or in the unconscious existence



na mato,

非死者,

Ñ: or dead



na catutthajjhānasamāpanno,

不是入第四禅定者,

Ñ: or attained to the fourth jhāna



na rūpārūpabhavasamaṅgī,

不是生居色无色界者,

Ñ: or born into the fine-material or immaterial existence



na nirodhasamāpanno.

不是入灭尽定者,

Ñ: or attained to cessation.



Atthiyeva te assāsapassāsā,

你当然是有出息入息的,

Ñ: Those in-breaths and out-breaths are actually existent in you,



mandapaññatāya pana pariggahetuṃ na sakkosī’’ti.

只因你的智慧迟钝,故不能执持(出入息)而已」。

Ñ: only you are not able to discern them because your understanding is dull'.



Athānena pakatiphuṭṭhavasena cittaṃ ṭhapetvā manasikāro pavattetabbo.

此时他便置心于(出入息的)自然的所触(之处)而起作意。

Ñ: Then, fixing his mind on the place normally touched [by the breaths], he should proceed to give his attention to that.
