Visuddhimagga XII-24

371. ‘‘So pakativaṇṇaṃ vijahitvā kumārakavaṇṇaṃ vā dasseti nāgavaṇṇaṃ vā…pe… vividhampi senābyūhaṃ dassetī’’ti (paṭi. ma. 3.13) evaṃ āgatā iddhi pakativaṇṇavijahanavikāravasena pavattattā vikubbanā iddhi nāma.

(二)(变化神变)他隐去本来的形态而显现童子的形态,或现为龙……乃至种种军队的形态,像这样所说的神变,是隐去本来的形态而变化起来的,故名「变化神变」。[PTS 379]

Ñ(XII,24): (ii) That given as follows, 'Having abandoned his normal form, he shows [himself in] the form of a boy or the form of a serpent … or he shows a manifold military array' (Ps.ii,210), is called success as transformation because of the abandoning and alteration of the normal form. [379]
