Visuddhimagga III-4

Kānassa lakkhaṇarasapaccupaṭṭhānapadaṭṭhānānīti ettha pana avikkhepalakkhaṇo samādhi, vikkhepaviddhaṃsanaraso, avikampanapaccupaṭṭhāno. ‘‘Sukhino cittaṃ samādhiyatī’’ti vacanato pana sukhamassa padaṭṭhānaṃ.

三、什么是定的相、味、现起、足处

什么是定的相、味、现起、足处?这里的定是以不散乱为(特)相,以消灭散乱为味(作用),以不散动为现起(现状),依照「乐者之心而善等持」的语句,故知乐为定的足处(近因)。

Ñ(III,4): (iii) WHAT ARE ITS CHARACTERISTIC, FUNCTION, MANIFESTATION, AND PROXIMATE CAUSE? Concentration has non-distraction as its characteristic. Its function is to eliminate distraction. It is manifested as non-wavering. Because of the words 'Being blissful, his mind becomes concentrated' (D.i,73), its proximate cause is bliss.
