Yāvadevāti puna etassa vacanaṃ niyatapayojanāvadhiparicchedadassanatthaṃ,

其次更提「仅」字，是再决定区限使用衣服的目的，

Ñ(I,88): Only: the word is repeated in order to define a subdivision of the invariable purpose;

hirikopīnapaṭicchādanañhi niyatapayojanaṃ, itarāni kadāci kadāci honti.

遮蔽羞部是使用衣服的决定目的，其它的目的是有时间性的。

Ñ: for the concealment of the private parts is an invariable purpose; the others are purposes periodically.

Tattha hirikopīnanti taṃ taṃ sambādhaṭṭhānaṃ. Yasmiṃ yasmiñhi aṅge vivariyamāne hirī kuppati vinassati, taṃ taṃ hiriṃ kopanato hirikopīnanti vuccati. Tassa ca hirikopīnassa paṭicchādanatthanti hirikopīnapaṭicchādanatthaṃ. Hirikopīnaṃ paṭicchādanatthantipi pāṭho.

「羞部」是他们（男女）的隐秘之处，因为暴露此等部分，则扰乱及破坏于羞耻，以其能乱羞耻，故名羞部。其羞部的遮蔽为遮蔽羞部，有些地方亦作遮蔽于羞部。

Ñ: Herein, private parts are any parts of the pudendum[pju:ˈdendəm]. For when a member is disclosed, conscience (hiri) is disturbed (kuppati), offended. It is called 'private parts' (hirikopīna) because of the disturbance of conscience (hiri-kopana). For the purpose of concealing the private parts: for the purpose of the concealment of those private parts. [As well as the reading 'hirikopīnapaṭicchādanatthaṃ'] there is a reading 'hirikopīnaṃ paṭicchādanatthaṃ'.
