Visuddhimagga VIII-18

Kathaṃ puññamahattato?

2)怎样以大福比较呢?

Ñ(VIII,18): How by comparison with those of great merit ?

Jotiko jaṭilo uggo, meṇḍako atha puṇṇako;

Ete caññe ca ye loke, mahāpuññāti vissutā;

Sabbe maraṇamāpannā, mādisesu kathāva kāti.

殊提(Jotika),阇提罗(Jaṭila),郁伽(Ugga)

文荼(Meṇḍaka),与富兰那迦(Puṇṇaka)

他们都是世间的大名大福者,

一切都已死,

如我这等人,

更有何言说。

Ñ: Jotika, Jaṭila, Ugga,

And Meṇḍaka, and Puṇṇaka

These, the world said, and others too,

Did live most meritoriously;

Yet they came one and all to death;

What can be said of those like me?

Evaṃ puññamahattato anussaritabbaṃ.

如是以大福比较而念死。

Ñ: It should be recollected in this way be comparison with those of great merit.
